Where to stay in Sydney? - 57 Hotel Review

Updated: Mar 25, 2020

We spent our first night in Sydney and in Australia at 57 Hotel, a boutique hotel with 92 rooms in Surry Hills. Traveling from Berlin to Sydney you can imagine we had a loooong long journey and reached Sydney after almost 2 days of traveling.

We arrived around noon at the hotel and where surprised how close the city center was to the airport. After about 15 minutes Uber ride we were finally able to check in.

Our room, a King room, was spacious and bright. The bed itself was just fantastic and frankly I did not want to leave it at all but at some point we needed to get out and start exploring the city.

Having rested and showered we started exploring our neighborhood Surry Hills. The hotel is right in the middle of it and Surry Hills is the up and coming neighborhood of Sydney. The area is packed with quaint little cafes and shops. Crown Street which is the main street you should visit in Surry Hills is a 2 minute walk away. Even Downtown, The Rocks, Chinatown and Paddington are within 20 minutes walk. Also Central Station is just nearby. So location wise we really liked it.

The hotel itself is really stylish and appeals to the young traveler. The design is inspired by the infamous New York nightclub Studio 54. I especially loved the Discolift. Another cool offer which I haven’t seen in any city hotel so far are the “experiences” you can book extra. For example the Relaxation package where you just enjoy the room and Netflix and Chill and enjoy some room service and wine. You can even rent a fish for 5 dolars per night :) There are many other packages to enhance your stay.

In the lobby guests can grab a coffee/tea from the coffee machine as well as cold drinks and pastries in the morning.

The room rates are super reasonable and it’s great value for what you pay. Around April 2019 rates where at 70-80 € per night which is a really good price for Sydney.

While you are in the neighborhood:

Have a coffee at the next door café The Reformatory Caffeine Lab. Eat breakfast at Bill’s or Reuben Hills. Spend an evening at Rosie Capmbell’s.
