The first things that came to my mind when I thought about holidays in Punta Cana, were huge hotel complexes, all inclusive buffets and tourist crowds. But I also thought of incredibly beautiful beaches and Caribbean vibes. The Dominican Republic was on my bucketlist for many years now and finally we decided to stop by after our trip to Colombia.
DE: Die ersten Dinge, die mir in den Sinn kommen, wenn ich an einen Urlaub in Punta Cana denke, sind riesige Hotelkomplexe, All-inclusive-Buffets und Touristenmassen. Aber ich auch an unglaublich schöne Strände und karibische Stimmung. Die Dominikanische Republik stand seit vielen Jahren auf meiner Bucketlist und endlich beschlossen wir, nach unserer Reise nach Kolumbien vorbeizuschauen.
Since we are not a fan of big hotel chains at all, we were looking for a more calm and relaxing place to stay which led us to the beautiful Eden Roc Cap Cana.
DE: Da wir überhaupt kein Fan großer Hotelketten sind, suchten wir nach einer ruhigeren und entspannenderen Unterkunft, was uns zum wunderschönen Eden Roc Cap Cana führte.
The Eden Roc is located in the so called Cap Cana area on the eastern shores of the island. This is a secluded and private area which is home to many high end residential projects, a marina, the best golf course of the Caribbean, Playa Juanillo and of course the beautiful Eden Roc.
Let me tell you all about this truly special place and the most relaxing week we had.
DE: Das Eden Roc befindet sich im sogenannten Cap Cana-Gebiet an der Ostküste der Insel. Dies ist eine abgelegene und private Gegend, in der sich viele hochwertige Wohnprojekte befinden, ein Yachthafen, der beste Golfkurs der Karibik, Playa Juanillo und natürlich das wunderschöne Eden Roc. Lasst mich euch alles über diesen wirklich besonderen Ort und die entspannendste Woche erzählen, die wir hier verbracht haben.
This place is all about privacy, good food and pure relaxation. You feel the moment you enter the big open air reception that you are in good hands. We got picked up from the airport and after a 15 minute drive we arrived and were greeted by a lot of warm smiles and a fresh welcome drink.
DE: Bei diesem Ort dreht sich alles um Privatsphäre, gutes Essen und pure Entspannung. Ihr spürt in dem Moment, in dem Ihr die große Open-Air Rezeption betretet, dass Ihr in guten Händen seit. Wir wurden vom Flughafen abgeholt und nach einer 15-minütigen Fahrt kamen wir an und wurden von vielen warmen Lächeln und einem erfrischenden Begrüßungsgetränk begrüßt.
After a quick introduction to the hotel our dedicated concierge Marlyn escorted us to our Villa. The hotel grounds are split into two main parts and there are two receptions. The main part is were most of the restaurants and most importantly the beach are. The second part is were all the Pool Villas are located. There is also a pool area and a restaurant and bar, but I'll come to that later. Transportation within the hotel is done via golf buggy and wait for it... every guest has their own personal buggy which they can drive themselves! Definitely was one of our highlights :)
DE: Nach einer kurzen Einführung in das Hotel begleitete uns unser Concierge Marlyn zu unserer Villa. Das Hotelgelände ist in zwei Hauptteile aufgeteilt und es gibt zwei Empfänge. Der Hauptteil ist, wo die meisten Restaurants und vor allem der Strand sind. Der zweite Teil ist, wo sich alle Poolvillen befinden. Es gibt auch einen Poolbereich dort und ein Restaurant und eine Bar, aber darauf komme ich später zurück. Der Transport innerhalb des Hotels erfolgt per Golfbuggy und jeder Gast hat seinen eigenen Buggy, den er selbst fahren kann! War auf jeden Fall eines unserer Highlights :)
The Villa
So we were staying at one of the Luxury Pool Junior Suites. After a short drive we arrived and seeing all the colored villas made me super happy. They looked too cute.
DE: Die Villa Wir waren also in einer der Luxus Pool Junior Suiten. Nach einer kurzen Fahrt kamen wir an und als ich all die farbigen Villen sah, war ich super glücklich. Sie sahen zucker süß aus.
Our villa was just a dream. The design was so elegant and cozy. I could not wait to spend the week here. So we had a big bedroom/living room with a huge comfy bed, a couch, big flat screen TV, of course a minibar and coffee corner and a dining table. Head to my IG TV for a full room tour video.
DE: Unsere Villa war einfach ein Traum. Das Design ist super elegant und gemütlich. Ich konnte es kaum erwarten, die Woche hier zu verbringen. Wir hatten ein großes Schlafzimmer / Wohnzimmer mit einem riesigen bequemen Bett, einer Couch, einem großen Flachbildfernseher, natürlich einer Minibar und einer Kaffeeecke und einem Esstisch. The whole area was overlooking our private terrace and was the Caribbean sun was reaching every corner of this beautiful space.
DE: Der gesamte Bereich war mit Blick auf unsere private Terrasse und die karibische Sonne durchflutet jede Ecke dieses schönen Zimmers.
Behind the big sliding mirrored doors there was the bathroom and closet area. Almost as big as the bedroom itself, this place was a true oasis. Especially the shower and bathtub and the outside shower were a dream.
DE: Hinter den großen Spiegelschiebetüren befand sich das Badezimmer und der begehbare Kleiderschrank. Fast so groß wie das Schlafzimmer selbst, ist dieser Ort eine wahre Oase. Besonders die Dusche und Badewanne und die Außendusche waren ein Traum.
They don't call it a pool villa for nothing. We had a big private terrace with a private pool and loungers. The best place to start your morning if you ask me.
DE: Die Villa nennt sich nicht umsonst eine Poolvilla. Wir hatten eine große private Terrasse mit privatem Pool und Sonnenliegen. Der beste Ort, um in den Morgen zu starten, wenn Ihr mich fragt.
The Beach
I'm am definitely a beach person and usually never go near the pool, although this one was very tempting I must admit :) So after having settled in we hopped on our little golf cart and headed straight to the beach to have a dip before sunset.
DE: Der Strand Ich bin definitiv eine Strand- und Meerperson und gehe normalerweise nie in den Pool, obwohl dieser hier sehr verlockend war, muss ich zugeben :) Nachdem wir uns kurz frisch gemacht haben, sind wir auf unseren kleinen Golfwagen gesprungen und sind direkt zum Strand gegangen, um noch schnell eine Runde vor dem Sonnenuntergang zu schwimmen.
The beach area is completely private and reserved to the guests of Eden Roc. It is a secluded bay with insanely white sand. The water is as you would expect crystal clear and turquoise. There are plenty of loungers right at the beach and towels are of course provided when you arrive.
DE: Der Strandbereich ist komplett privat und den Gästen vom Eden Roc vorbehalten. Es ist eine abgelegene Bucht mit richtig weissem Sand. Das Wasser ist wie erwartet kristallklar und türkis. Es gibt viele Liegen direkt am Strand und Handtücher werden natürlich bei der Ankunft zur Verfügung gestellt.
For those of you who enjoy staying close to the beach there are also Oceanfront Bungalows and Beachfront Suites available. These are located right at the beach and you can access it within a few steps.
DE: Für diejenigen unter euch, die gerne in Strandnähe übernachten, gibt es auch Oceanfront Bungalows und Beachfront Suites. Diese befinden sich direkt am Strand und dieser ist in wenigen Schritten erreichbar.
The backdrop of the beach you have the huge main pool which overlooks the ocean and the many palm trees. When you got hungry at the beach but don't want to leave your lounger or are just in need of a fresh cocktail the Uva Bar on the beach offers plenty of snack sized options which you can enjoy on the beach or by the pool. Which brings me to the next, very important topic.
DE: Im Hintergrund des Strandes befindet sich der riesige Hauptpool mit Blick auf das Meer und die vielen Palmen. Wenn Ihr am Strand hunger bekommt, aber eure gemütliche Liege nicht verlassen wollt, bietet die Uva Bar direkt am Strand zahlreiche Snack Optionen , die Ihr am Strand oder am Pool genießen könnt. Das bringt mich zum nächsten, sehr wichtigen Thema.
The Food
Those of you who follow me for a while know that the majority of my travels consists of food and eating it. Luckily the Eden Roc is known for it's great restaurants and attracts also many foodies in the area who come here to enjoy the good food and the lovely atmosphere. The hotel has three main restaurants, all with different themes and vibes. I will start with my absolute favorite
La Palapa
This is the hotels beachside restaurant and is located right on the turquoise water. Nothing beats a good lunch by the sea accompanied by wave sounds and a refreshing sea breeze.
DE: Das Essen Diejenigen von euch, die mir eine Weile folgen, wissen, dass der Großteil meiner Reisen aus Essen besteht. Glücklicherweise ist das Eden Roc für seine großartigen Restaurants bekannt und zieht auch viele Feinschmecker in der Gegend an, die hierher kommen, um das gute Essen und die schöne Atmosphäre zu genießen. Das Hotel verfügt über drei Restaurants mit unterschiedlichen Themen. Ich werde mit meinem absoluten Favoriten beginnen La Palapa Dies ist das Strandrestaurant des Hotels und liegt direkt am türkisfarbenen Wasser. Nichts geht über ein gutes Mittagessen am Meer, begleitet von Wellengeräuschen und einer erfrischenden Meeresbrise.
The food suits the concept. The menu is mainly seafood heavy but there are also many vegetarian and beef/poultry options. The food is excellent and we enjoyed both lunch and dinner here. If you have to chose, I would say this place is perfect for lunch. Make sure to try the local seafood, it is amazing.
DE: Das Essen passt zum Konzept. Die Speisekarte besteht hauptsächlich aus Meeresfrüchten, aber es gibt auch viele vegetarische und Rind- / Geflügelgerichte. Das Essen ist ausgezeichnet und wir haben hier sowohl Mittag- als auch Abendessen genossen. Wenn Ihr euch entscheiden müsst, würde ich sagen, dass dieser Ort perfekt zum Mittagessen ist. Probiert unbedingt die lokalen Meeresfrüchte.
The Blue Bar + Grill is the main restaurant of the resort where also breakfast is served. We enjoyed every meal at the Blue. The view over the pool and palm trees is another great feature of this restaurant.
DE: Das Blue Bar + Grill ist das Hauptrestaurant des Resorts, in dem auch das Frühstück serviert wird. Wir haben jede Mahlzeit im Blue genossen. Der Blick über den Pool und die Palmen ist ein weiteres großartiges Merkmal dieses Restaurants.
The menu has something for everyone, from Neapolitan pizza to sushi. All the meals were truly great so I recommend to stop by.
DE: Die Speisekarte bietet für jeden etwas, von neapolitanischer Pizza bis Sushi. Alle Mahlzeiten waren wirklich toll, also empfehle ich, vorbeizuschauen.
The breakfast was a combination of buffet and an A La Carte selection including breakfast classics like pancakes to local Dominican dishes.
DE: Das Frühstück war eine Kombination aus Buffet und einer Auswahl à la carte, einschließlich Frühstücksklassikern wie Pfannkuchen und lokalen dominikanischen Gerichten.
If you are in the mood for a romantic fine dining experience head over to the Mediterraneo. This place offers a culinary experience overlooking the Gardens of Eden and the pool.
DE: Wenn Ihr Lust auf ein romantisches Gourmet-Erlebnis habt, besucht das Mediterraneo. Dieses Restaurant bietet ein kulinarisches Erlebnis mit Blick auf die Gärten von Eden und den Pool.
The atmosphere is magical. After dinner you can continue the evening the the Riva Bar, enjoying some handcrafted cocktails and live piano music. The perfect date night.
DE: Die Atmosphäre ist magisch. Nach dem Abendessen könnt Ihr den Abend in der Riva Bar fortsetzen und handgefertigte Cocktails und Live-Klaviermusik genießen.
So we already covered my favorite parts of the hotel but the Eden Roc has so much more to offer. Even though I don't golf, this hotel is home one of the best golf courses in the world. The Punta Espada golf course is one of the main reasons golf enthusiasts from around the globe flock to Punta Cana and enjoy the views and great scenery this place has to offer. So if you are into golf the Eden Roc is the place to be I would say.
DE: Aber das Eden Roc hat noch viel mehr zu bieten. Obwohl ich nicht Golf spiele, ist dieses Hotel beherbergt einen der besten Golfplätze der Welt. Der Golfplatz The Punta Espada ist einer der Hauptgründe, warum Golfbegeisterte aus aller Welt nach Punta Cana strömen und die Aussicht und die großartige Landschaft genießen, die dieser Ort zu bieten hat. Wenn Ihr euch für Golf interessiert, ist das Eden Roc genau das Richtige für euch.
The hotel has of course a variety of spa offers as well as a really nice fitness center (which I skipped of course hehe). I personally recommend an afternoon massage at the beachside spa location.
DE: Das Hotel hat natürlich eine Vielzahl von Spa-Angeboten sowie ein wirklich schönes Fitnesscenter (das ich natürlich gemieden habe, hehe). Ich persönlich empfehle eine Nachmittagsmassage im Spa am Strand.
One afternoon we hopped on our golf cart and went to nearby Playa Juanillo which is supposed to be one of the best beaches of the Dom Rep. It is definitely worth a visit. We also went to the nearby marina for a sunset stroll. If you are up for some adventure you can visit the nearby Scape Park where you can visit the beautiful natural caves and blue holes and do all sort of activities such as zip lining. Probably also a great place to visit with kids.
DE: An einem Nachmittag sind wir mit unserem Golfwagen zum nahe gelegenen Playa Juanillo gefahren, welcher einer der besten Strände der DomRep sein soll. Er ist definitiv einen Besuch wert. Wir gingen auch zum nahe gelegenen Yachthafen für einen Sonnenuntergangsspaziergang. Wenn Ihr Lust auf etwas mehr Abenteuer habt, könnt Ihr den nahe gelegenen Scape Park besuchen, wo die wunderschönen natürlichen Höhlen liegen und man alle Arten von Aktivitäten wie Zip Line machen kann. Bestimmt auch ein Hit bei den Kindern.
For those who travel with kids there is the Koko kids club which even features a kids spa! Got a bit jealous there :)
DE: Für diejenigen, die mit Kindern reisen, gibt es den Koko Kids Club, der sogar ein Kinder-Spa bietet! Ich bin ein bisschen eifersüchtig geworden als ich das gesehen habe :)
One last thing I want to mention is the true hospitality and warmth of all the staff at Eden Roc. They made us feel so special and there smiles spread a warm and positive mood. This place is great for honeymooners and couples as well as for families I would say. There is something for everybody here.
DE: Eine letzte Sache, die ich erwähnen möchte, ist die wahre Gastfreundschaft und Herzlichkeit aller Mitarbeiter im Eden Roc. Sie gaben uns das Gefühl, etwas Besonderes zu sein, und Ihr Lächeln verbreitete eine warme und positive Stimmung. Dieser Ort ist ideal für die Flitterwochen, Paare sowie für Familien, würde ich sagen. Hier ist für jeden etwas dabei.
We had such an amazing vacation here and it was actually only two weeks before we went on lockdown due to the Covid-19 situation. We could not be more grateful for memories we took home with us and the Eden Roc will always have a special place in our heart. We hope to be back some day and to meet with the lovely staff again.
