One night in Helsinki at the Marski Hotel by Scandic

Updated: Mar 25, 2020

We travelled to Helsinki a couple of times for a layover but never got to leave the airport. This time, on our way to South Korea, we booked a long layover where we could spend 1 night and 1 full day in Helsinki.

Since we had a very limited amount of time to explore the city we chose probably one of the most centrally located hotels in the city: Marski by Scandic.

The hotel recently opened and is just a few minutes walk away from the Central Station and the main shopping streets of Helsinki. So the moment you step out you already are in the middle of the city which saved us a lot of time.

We stayed on the eight floor in one of the Classic Double rooms. The room was spacious and decorated very modern. The whole feel of the property is very sexy, with dimmed lights and dark cozy colors and fabrics all around. Really loved it.

From the room we had a great view towards Helsinki's city center. A big bed, chill area, work desk, mini bar and a very fancy bathroom were other features of the room.

My highlight was the breakfast which is served at Kuusi Palaa Restaurant. There were so many choices that you need at least 2-3 nights here to try them all.

I loved that there were so many options from the local cuisine and we got to try some of them. Everything was delicious and the coffee was so good.

Which brings me to Cafe 7:01. The cafe is located on the ground floor and has great coffee and a selection of quick bites. Make sure to grab a coffee here before exploring the city.

In the evening you can grab a drink at the fancy Marski Bar. This area made me feel like from a scene from The Great Gatsby. The design and warm feel is really great.

The bar is not just popula among hotel guests but seems to be a popular spot to hang out for the locals.

Overall we had a great stay at Marski. The location, the food and comfort was impeccable. We would definitely stay here again and hopefully have more time next time to also check out the Finnish sauna.
