If you’re headed to Shanghai and looking for a spot that oozes contemporary chic while offering relaxation and comfort, The Middle House is calling. Nestled in the heart of Jing’an, this boutique hotel is part of the prestigious House Collective and is a perfect blend of luxury, art, and laid-back vibes. Here’s why you’ll fall in love with it.
Rooms that will make you feel right at home
The rooms at The Middle House are next-level cozy. Think warm lighting, smooth wooden finishes, and a minimalist vibe that somehow makes you feel right at home, but way fancier. Each space is peppered with modern Chinese touches, from subtle artworks to small little details that make all the difference. And let’s not forget those beds – soft as clouds. You’ll want to skip the sightseeing just to lounge around (and we don’t blame you). The soaking bathtub that screams bubble bath + book time after a long day exploring. With floor to ceiling windows overlooking Jing'an you will see the hustle and bustle of the city day and night.
The amenities were all that we could think of and more. A Dyson hairdryer and the extremely soft robes where my personal highlight. I was also very impressed by all the amenities that were waiting for our son. A baby bathtub, baby shampoo, baby toothbrush, a small gift and a baby crib. So cute!
Dining: A Feast for the Senses
The Middle House offers a variety of dining options. Frasca, an Italian restaurant that serves dreamy wood-fired pizzas and fresh pastas. The open-air terrace? Perfect for sipping a Negroni while soaking up Shanghai’s buzzing vibes.
For something a bit spicier, Sui Tang Li dishes up modern Chinese plates that hit all the right notes. The crispy duck? Legendary. Bonus: The wine list is top-notch, so don’t hold back.
The breakfast is served at Cafe Gray and was mainly A La Carte. We loved to start our day here and indulge.
Spa Heaven Awaits
After a long day of exploring Shanghai’s vibrant streets, you’ll want to make a beeline for Mi Xun Spa. This serene sanctuary offers treatments that are all about unwinding. Make sure to try one of their signature massages, especially if you’ve been on your feet all day or after a long arrival flight. Oh, and there’s a stunning indoor pool that feels more like a Zen retreat than your usual hotel pool.
A Gym You’ll Actually Use (I did not :) )
Let’s face it, most hotel gyms are afterthoughts, but not here. The Middle House gym is decked out with top-notch equipment, personal trainers, and even yoga classes. Whether you’re into lifting, spinning, or just stretching out after all those dumplings, they’ve got you covered. Another thing I loved was the yoga mat and small workout equipments in the room. So if you're not feeling like working out at the gym you can still get your workout in, in the comfort of your room.
Location, Location, Location
Being in Jing’an means you’re in the thick of it. Want to shop till you drop? Nanjing West Road is right there and the hotel is attache to Hkri Taikoo Hui Mall. Many great areas and attractions are just a short cab ride away or you can hop on the subway which is just next to the hotel. Even if you’re just wandering, the leafy streets around the hotel are packed with cute cafes and hidden boutiques. I would definitively say this is one of the best areas to stay in Shanghai.
Why It’s More Than Just a Stay
What sets The Middle House apart is the vibe. It’s luxurious without being stuffy. It's called "House" for a reason and that is also the mission of the brand. To be a home away from home. The staff are warm and attentive, making sure every detail is handled with care. Plus, the hotel’s commitment to art and design gives it a cool edge that makes your stay feel extra special.
Final Thoughts
The Middle House isn’t just a hotel – it’s an experience. Whether you’re in Shanghai for business, pleasure, or a bit of both, this spot wraps you in understated luxury while putting you at the center of one of the world’s most dynamic cities. Trust me: once you check in, you’ll never want to leave.
