Where to stay in Prague? - Golden Key

Updated: Mar 25, 2020

Since Prague is super close to Berlin we decided to go for a romantic weekend getaway. We have been to Prague before but never during winter months and I believe Prague is one of those cities that are actually great during the colder months. All the cute and cozy cafes and narrow streets of the old town make it a perfect city to enjoy a winter weekend. After hours of exploring the city we always appreciate a base to come back to where you can relax and warm up.

Our base for this trip was the Golden Key, Member of Asten Hotels. It is a boutique hotel with 25 unique rooms and it is located on Pragues most beautiful street: Nerudova street. This cute little street you will probably encounter when on your way up to Prague castle and we where lucky enough to call this our address for a couple of days. It is located on the other side of the river away from the touristy old town, yet close enough to reach Charles Bridge and all other site within 10 minute walk. I really enjoyed that we where away from the crowds especially at night we had the calm and peace to enjoy a good night sleep.

The Golden Key is located in a building from the 16th century and has been turned into a hotel in 2014. Since it is a true boutique hotel the focus is to offer guests a memorable stay. This is what I personally love about small hotels. They really pay attention to detail and always find a way to make you smile. For example, the home made cookies that where waiting at the reception as well as in our rooms where delicious or the organic cheese from local Czech farmers where small but beautiful details that made this stay special.

We stayed at one of the Junior Suites (Room 13) overlooking the cute hotel courtyard on one side and on the other side we had a view on Pragues old town. With many windows this room was especially bright and also quite big. Rooms are decorated in a classic chique style with huge beds and a lot of fluffy pillows. So cozy and homy. All rooms have an espresso machine to enjoy some morning coffee and all other standards, including wifi speakers, you would expect from a 4 star hotel. Amenities from L'Occitane are available in all rooms.

Breakfast is served from 07:30 - 10:30 and offers a variety of cold and warm selections. As mentioned before I especially enjoyed the local selection of cheese and cold cuts which are all organically produced in the Czech Republic. Also the pre-made sandwiches where delicious.

Other perks of this hotel are the in house gym and the sauna. Also the cafe called Designum on the ground floor is an excellent place to have some cake and coffee. All in all I have to say Golden Key made our romantic getaway to Prague even more romantic. This hotel is perfect for couples as well as families.
