InterContinental Table Bay Cape Town Review: Luxury Stay at the V&A Waterfront

On our last few days in Cape Town, we stayed at the InterContinental Table Bay, and honestly, it is one of those places that ist just perfect. We stayed at other Intercontinental properties before, so we had high expectations and InterContinental Table Bay did not disappoint. The hotel has recently been renovated and relaunched under the Intercontinental brand. Everything feels light, fresh and modern, but still very much in that classic luxury style. It does not feel over the top or intimidating, just really comfortable and well thought out, which we appreciated a lot traveling as a family.

DE: An unseren letzten Tagen in Kapstadt haben wir im InterContinental Table Bay übernachtet und ehrlich gesagt ist es eines dieser Hotels, das einfach rundum passt. Wir kannten bereits andere InterContinental Hotels und hatten daher ziemlich hohe Erwartungen und das InterContinental Table Bay hat uns definitiv nicht enttäuscht. Das Hotel wurde vor Kurzem renoviert und neu unter der InterContinental Marke eröffnet. Alles wirkt hell, frisch und modern, aber gleichzeitig immer noch klassisch luxuriös. Es fühlt sich nicht abgehoben an, sondern einfach richtig angenehm und durchdacht, was wir gerade als Familie sehr geschätzt haben.

The location is probably one of the main reasons I would recommend it. It sits right at the V&A Waterfront, which is basically the heart of Cape Town when it comes to restaurants, shops, and things to do. What made a huge difference for us was the direct access to the mall. With a toddler, this is such a game changer. Need snacks, coffee, or just an easy dinner option without planning too much? It is all right there, and you do not even have to go outside. The Oranjezicht Farmers Market is just around the corner and an evening sunset walk or a morning run along the promenade are a huge bonus.

DE: Die Lage ist wahrscheinlich einer der Hauptgründe, warum ich das Hotel empfehlen würde. Es liegt direkt an der V&A Waterfront, also genau dort, wo sich in Kapstadt alles abspielt, von Restaurants über Shops bis hin zu Aktivitäten. Was für uns wirklich ein riesiger Vorteil war, ist der direkte Zugang zum Einkaufszentrum. Mit Kleinkind ist das einfach Gold wert. Snacks, Kaffee oder ein unkompliziertes Abendessen ohne große Planung? Alles direkt da und du musst nicht weit fahren. Der Oranjezicht City Farm Market ist auch gleich um die Ecke und ein Spaziergang bei Sonnenuntergang oder eine kleine Runde am Morgen entlang der Promenade sind einfach perfekt.

Our room was a Queen Premium Room with a big balcony facing Table Mountain, and that view alone made the stay. I do not think I will ever get used to waking up and seeing Table Mountain right in front of me. The room itself felt really fresh after the renovation, with a clean design and everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Two Queen beds, a lounge area, spacious bathroom with shower and bathtub, a fully stocked minbar and coffee machine and welcome goodies when we checked in. The balcony was probably my favorite part though, especially in the mornings with a coffee while everything is still quiet.

DE: Unser Zimmer war ein Queen Premium Room mit großem Balkon und Blick auf den Table Mountain und allein dieser Ausblick hat den Aufenthalt schon besonders gemacht. Ich glaube, daran gewöhnt man sich einfach nie. Morgens aufzuwachen und direkt auf den Tafelberg zu schauen ist schon ziemlich besonders. Das Zimmer selbst war nach der Renovierung richtig schön frisch, mit klarem Design und allem, was man für einen entspannten Aufenthalt braucht. Zwei große Betten, eine kleine Sitzecke, ein großzügiges Bad mit Dusche und Badewanne, eine gut gefüllte Minibar, Kaffeemaschine und sogar kleine Welcome Goodies beim Check-in. Am meisten geliebt habe ich aber den Balkon, vor allem morgens mit einem Kaffee, wenn alles noch ruhig ist.

Since we are traveling with Teo, we always check out the kids club, and Planet Trekkers was such a nice surprise. It is not huge, but it feels very thoughtful and well organized. The staff were really kind, and you could tell they genuinely enjoy spending time with the kids. It gave us the option to take a bit of a break, which is something we really value when traveling.

DE: Da wir mit Kleinkind reisen, schauen wir uns immer den Kids Club an und Planet Trekkers war wirklich eine schöne Überraschung. Er ist nicht riesig, aber sehr liebevoll gestaltet und gut organisiert. Das Team war total herzlich und man merkt sofort, dass sie gerne mit Kindern arbeiten. Für uns war es einfach schön, zwischendurch auch mal etwas Zeit für uns zu haben, während Teo gut aufgehoben ist.

Breakfast at Flint and Fennel quickly became part of our daily routine. It is one of those breakfasts where you actually want to take your time. There is a really good mix of options, from fresh fruit and pastries to hot dishes, and everything is high quality. There was an extensive buffet and A La Carte options that went beyond your usual omelette.

DE: Das Frühstück im Flint and Fennel wurde schnell zu einem festen Teil unseres Tages. Es ist genau die Art von Frühstück, bei der man sich gerne Zeit lässt. Es gibt eine richtig gute Auswahl, von frischem Obst und Gebäck bis hin zu warmen Speisen, und alles ist qualitativ sehr hochwertig. Neben dem großen Buffet gibt es auch À-la-carte-Gerichte, die deutlich über das klassische Omelette hinausgehen.

Other dining options at the hotel include Le Bistrot de JAN, led by Michelin stared chef Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen. Perfect if you are in the mood for something a bit more special without leaving the hotel.

And then there is The Botanist’s Table. It is such a beautiful space with picturesque views.

DE: Zu den weiteren Restaurants im Hotel gehört auch Le Bistrot de JAN, geführt von Michelin-Sternekoch Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen. Perfekt, wenn du Lust auf etwas Besonderes hast, ohne das Hotel zu verlassen.

Und dann ist da noch The Botanist’s Table. Eine richtig schöne Bar mit tollem Ausblick und einer entspannten, aber stilvollen Atmosphäre.

The pool area is another spot we kept coming back to. The pool is heated, which makes a big difference, especially when the weather is not super hot. We spent quite a bit of time there, just relaxing while Teo played. The Solandra Pool Bar is right there as well, so you can easily order drinks or something small to eat without moving much, which is always a win.

DE: Auch der Poolbereich ist ein Ort, an den wir immer wieder zurückgekommen sind. Der Pool ist beheizt, was gerade an etwas kühleren Tagen einen großen Unterschied macht. Wir haben dort viel Zeit verbracht, während Teo gespielt hat und wir einfach ein bisschen entspannt haben. Direkt daneben ist die Solandra Pool Bar, sodass du dir ganz unkompliziert Drinks oder kleine Snacks bestellen kannst, ohne dich groß bewegen zu müssen.

Overall, this stay just felt really special in the best possible way. The combination of the location, the views, the newly renovated rooms, and the family-friendly touches made it a place we genuinely enjoyed. If you are looking for a luxury stay in Cape Town that works just as well with a toddler as it does for a couple’s trip, this is definitely one to consider.
