Hamburg Boutique Hotels - A perfect weekend getaway

We spontaneously decided to go on a weekend getaway to Hamburg during the Christmas season. It is just a 2.5 hour drive away from Berlin and I really wanted to experience the city with all its beautiful Christmas decorations. Hamburg did not disappoint and is in my opinion one of the Top 3 cities in Germany you must see during the festive season.

DE: Wir haben spontan beschlossen, während der Weihnachtszeit einen Wochenendausflug nach Hamburg zu machen. Es ist nur 2,5 Autostunden von Berlin entfernt und ich wollte die Stadt mit all ihrer wunderschönen Weihnachtsdekoration unbedingt erleben. Hamburg hat uns nicht enttäuscht und ist meiner Meinung nach eine der Top 3 Städte in Deutschland, die man während der Weihnachtszeit unbedingt sehen muss.

DE: In diesem Blogbeitrag stelle ich euch zwei Hoteloptionen für einen perfekten Wochenendausflug nach Hamburg vor. Egal, ob Ihr nach einem romantischen Aufenthalt oder einfach nur einem komfortablen und gemütlichen Aufenthalt für die ganze Familie sucht, diese Hotels bieten beides.

Gastwerk Hamburg

Gastwerk is located in an old power plant and the location is just stunning. The moment you enter the huge foyer and lobby area you're surrounded by all the details referring to the building's history. The dark lightning and modern design throughout the property rounds up the whole concept perfectly.

Das Gastwerk befindet sich in einem alten Gaswerk und die Lage ist einfach beeindruckend. Sobald man das riesige Foyer und den Lobbybereich betritt, sieht man all die Details, die auf die Geschichte des Gebäudes verweisen. Die dunkle Beleuchtung und das moderne Design im gesamten Gebäude runden das Gesamtkonzept perfekt ab.

Our loft style room (M-Loft category)was really impressive with high ceilings and a big window front. While having a very cozy vibe the exposed concrete walls gave it a modern twist. We had a big comfy bed, a lounge area with a nice view over the building, a dining table and coffee/tea station and of course all the necessary amenities.

DE: Unser Zimmer im Loft-Stil (Kategorie M-Loft) war mit seinen hohen Decken und der großen Fensterfront wirklich beeindruckend. Das Zimmer hatte eine sehr gemütliche Atmosphäre und die freiliegenden Betonwände verliehen dem Zimmer einen modernen Touch. Wir hatten ein großes, bequemes Bett, einen Sitzbereich am Fenster mit schöner Aussicht über das Gebäude, einen Esstisch und eine Kaffee-/Teestation und natürlich alle notwendigen Annehmlichkeiten.

Breakfast was served at the Restaurant Mangold, which is also open for dinner by the way. The setting was very warm and cozy. The buffet style breakfast was really good. A lot of choices with many local staples like smoked fish not to mention the exceptional coffee. We really enjoyed our start to the day here.

DE: Das Frühstück wurde im Restaurant Mangold serviert, das übrigens auch zum Abendessen geöffnet ist. Die Atmosphäre war sehr warm und gemütlich. Das Frühstücksbuffet war wirklich gut. Viel Auswahl mit vielen lokalen Spezialitäten wie geräuchertem Fisch, ganz zu schweigen von dem sehr guten Kaffee. Wir haben unseren Start in den Tag hier wirklich genossen.

Before checking out we had a brief look at the Gastwerk shop with many beautiful gifts and souvenirs. 

DE: Vor dem Auschecken haben wir einen kurzen Blick in den Gastwerk-Shop mit vielen schönen Geschenken und Souvenirs geworfen.

Gastwerk is located in Altona and provides free parking for its guests. The nearest SBahn station (Ottensen) is a 10 minute walk away. 

We loved our stay at Gastwerk and I can definitely recommend it to everyone looking for a comfortable and modern stay.

DE: Das Gastwerk befindet sich in Altona und bietet seinen Gästen kostenlose Parkplätze. Die nächste S-Bahn-Station (Ottensen) ist 10 Gehminuten entfernt.

Wir haben unseren Aufenthalt im Gastwerk geliebt und ich kann es definitiv jedem empfehlen, der eine komfortable und moderne Unterkunft sucht.

The George Hamburg

Another beautiful hotel option in Hamburg is The George. This place has a more boutique vibe and is located in the St. Georg neighborhood just a few minutes walk from the Alster lake and Lange Reihe, making it a good option if you prefer to be a bit more central.

DE: Eine weitere, sehr schöne Hoteloption in Hamburg ist das The George. Dieses Hotel hat eher eine Boutique-Atmosphäre und liegt im Viertel St. Georg, nur wenige Gehminuten von der Alster und der Langen Reihe entfernt, was es zu einer guten Option macht, wenn Ihr es lieber etwas zentraler haben möchtet.

Upon entering you will immediately know what I say boutique vibe. The warm colors and lightning make me want to order a hot coco and just relax in one of the comfortable sitting areas.

DE: Beim Betreten  wisst Ihr sofort, was ich mit Boutique-Atmosphäre meine. Die warmen Farben und die Beleuchtung laden dazu ein, eine heiße Schokolade zu bestellen und einfach in einer der bequemen Sitzecken zu entspannen.

Our room was located on the fifth floor and we even had a partial view of the Alster lake from our balcony. The room itself was cozy and had all the amenities we could ask for, including bathrobes and slippers. 

DE: Unser Zimmer war im fünften Stock und wir hatten von unserem Balkon aus sogar einen teilweisen Blick auf die Alster. Das Zimmer selbst war gemütlich und hatte alle Annehmlichkeiten, die wir uns wünschen konnten, einschließlich Bademänteln und Hausschuhen.

Breakfast was included and was served until 1pm which I absolutely loved and hadn't seen yet in any European city hotel. It was really nice to take it slow and not have to rush, since I am not a morning person.

Served in the hotels restaurant, Da Caio, there was a wide variety of options. The cold cuts section was especially impressive. Da Caio is also a popular spot for dinner and drinks and they also offer afternoon tea.

DE: Das Frühstück war inkludiert und wurde bis 13 Uhr serviert, was ich absolut toll fand und in noch keinem anderen europäischen Stadthotel erlebt hatte. Es war wirklich schön, es langsam angehen zu lassen und sich nicht beeilen zu müssen, da ich kein Morgenmensch bin.

Im Hotelrestaurant Da Caio gab es eine große Auswahl. Besonders die die Auswahl an Aufschnitt war beeindruckend. Da Caio ist auch ein beliebter Ort für Abendessen und Drinks und sie bieten auch Afternoon Tea an.

The George was definitely a great end to a beautiful weekend in Hamburg. I would recommend this hotel especially to couples looking for a romantic and central getaway.
