A seaplane ride is something very unique in the Maldives and one of the few, if not the only place on earth were seaplanes are the major means of transportation.
So most likely, when you visit the Maldives you will find yourself on a seaplane en route to paradise.

Let me tell you everything you need to know before taking off.
Transmaldivian is the largest seaplane operator in the world and almost all flights to the resorts are executed by them. Only a few resorts operate their own seaplane.

Transmaldivian ist der größte Wasserflugzeugbetreiber der Welt und fast alle Flüge zu den Resorts werden von ihnen durchgeführt. Nur wenige Resorts betreiben ein eigenes Wasserflugzeug.
There are three main ways to reach the resorts.
a) by speedboat - in case the resort is close enough to Male
b) by seaplane
c) by domestic airplane to a local island + speedboat
Having tried all three I will say, that in terms of experience the seaplane is the clear winner. The views and experience itself is priceless and something you should experience when in the Maldives.
Es gibt drei Wege, um die Resorts zu erreichen.
a) mit dem Speedboot - falls das Resort nahe genug an Male liegt
b) mit dem Wasserflugzeug
c) mit einem Inlandsflug zu einer lokalen Insel + Speedboot
Ich habe alle drei ausprobiert, und das Wasserflugzeug ist in Hinsicht auf das Erlebnis der klare Gewinner ist. Die Aussicht und das Erlebnis an sich sind atemberaubend und etwas, das Ihr auf den Malediven erleben solltet.
Let me tell you the process.
Once you arrive in Male, a representative from your resort is waiting for you. You will be escorted to the Transmaldivian checkin counter, which is just opposite the arrival hall. The representative will do the checkin for you and hand you your boarding passes. Luggage will be collected as well.
Since we flew during Covid, we were also handed a personal hygiene kit which included face masks, gloves and hand disinfectent. Masks were mandatory throughout the flight.

Sobald Ihr in Male ankommt, wartet ein Vertreter eures Resorts auf euch. Ihr werdet zum Transmaldivian Check-in-Schalter geleitet, der sich direkt gegenüber der Ankunftshalle befindet. Der Vertreter macht den Check-in für euch und gibt euch die Bordkarten. Das Gepäck wird ebenfalls hier eingecheckt.
Da wir während Covid geflogen sind, wurde uns auch ein persönliches Hygienekit ausgehändigt, welches Masken, Handschuhe und Händedesinfektionsmittel enthielt. Masken waren während des gesamten Fluges obligatorisch.
Now you are ready to head to the seaplane terminal which is a short drive away from the main terminal. Depending on the resort you are staying at you will either take the shuttle bus of Transmaldivian or if your resort has one, you will take a private car to the seaplane terminal.
Again depending on the resort you can either wait in the Transmaldivian open air waiting lounge (Left picture) or if your resort has one, the resorts private lounge. In both, snacks and drinks are available.
DE: Nun könnt Sie Ihr zum Wasserflugzeugterminal fahren, welches nur eine kurze Autofahrt vom Hauptterminal entfernt ist. Je nachdem, in welchem Resort Ihr übernachtet, könnt Ihr entweder den Shuttlebus von Transmaldivian nehmen oder, falls euer Resort das anbietet, mit einem privates Auto zum Wasserflugzeugterminal fahren.
Abhängig vom Resort könnt Ihr entweder in der Transmaldivian Open Air-Wartelounge (Foto links) oder, in der privaten Lounge des Resorts warten. In beiden sind Snacks und Getränke erhältlich.
Once your flight time approaches you will head to the boarding Terminal and afterwards to your seaplane.
The flight durations might change depending on how many stops you will make along the way. Sometimes the plane will make a stop at other resorts so you might be lucky enough to experience several takeoffs and landings.

Die Flugdauer kann sich je nach Anzahl der Zwischenstopps ändern. Manchmal macht das Flugzeug in anderen Resorts einen Zwischenstopp.
One of the most asked questions I get is, Is the seaplane ride scary? I flew 4 times in total and we always had a smooth ride. The planes fly relatively low and only operate when the weather is good. And remember, they are made to land on water so there is nothing to worry about. Transmaldivian is a highly experienced company and so are there pilots. They even fly barefoot :)
Prices vary depending on the distance but usually are in the 400-500 USD per person/roundtrip range. In some resorts this is already included in the room rate.
I would definitely recommend everyone visiting the Maldives to experience this at least once! It is so worth it.
DE: Eine der am häufigsten gestellten Fragen ist: Ist die Fahrt mit dem Wasserflugzeug beängstigend? Ich bin insgesamt 4 Mal geflogen und wir hatten immer eine reibungslose Fahrt mit keinen Turbulenzen. Die Flugzeuge fliegen relativ niedrig und fliegen nur bei gutem Wetter. Transmaldivian ist ein sehr erfahrenes Unternehmen, ebenso wie die Piloten. Sie fliegen sogar barfuß :)
Die Preise variieren je nach Entfernung, liegen jedoch normalerweise im Bereich von 400 bis 500 USD pro Person / Hin- und Rückfahrt. In einigen Resorts ist dies bereits im Zimmerpreis enthalten.
Ich würde definitiv jedem empfehlen, der die Malediven besucht, dies mindestens einmal zu erleben! Es ist ein wirklich einzigartiges Erlebnis!
