Maldives - Heritance Aarah Review

In March 2021 we returned to my favorite place on earth: The Maldives!! But this time something was different. We were traveling during a global pandemic.

The Maldives is definitely one of the few places where social distancing is not a challenge at all. Even during normal times the islands we stayed in never felt crowded.

DE: Im März 2021 kehrten wir an meinen Lieblingsort auf der Welt zurück: Die Malediven!! Aber diesmal war etwas anders. Wir reisen während einer globalen Pandemie.

Die Malediven sind definitiv einer der wenigen Orte, an denen social distancing überhaupt keine Herausforderung darstellt. Selbst während normalen Zeiten fühlten sich die Inseln, auf denen wir waren, nie überfüllt an.

Our first stop was Heritance Aarah Resort in Raa Atoll.

Our journey started at Male airport where a hotel representative was waiting for us. He escorted us to the hotels private lounge in the seaplane terminal where we waited for our boarding time. It was definitely a great start to have an air conditioned and private lounge after almost 20 hours of traveling. Small snacks and beverages were also available.

Unsere Reise begann am Flughafen Male, wo ein Hotelvertreter auf uns wartete. Er begleitete uns zur privaten Warteounge des Hotels im Terminal, wo wir auf unsere Boarding-Zeit warteten. Es war definitiv ein großartiger Start, nach fast 20 Stunden unterwegs eine klimatisierte und private Lounge zu haben. Kleine Snacks und Getränke waren ebenfalls erhältlich.

After a 45 minute scenic sea plane right ride with Transmaldivian we finally arrived in paradise. I cannot tell you how happy and grateful we felt when we touched down on the crystal clear turqouise water.

We were greeted by the staff at the arrival jetty. All employees were wearing masks and first things first, our luggage and bags were thoroughly disinfected.

DE: Nach einem 45-minütigen Flug mit dem Wasserflugzeug kamen wir endlich im Paradies an. Ich kann euch nicht sagen, wie glücklich und dankbar wir uns fühlten, als wir auf dem kristallklaren türkisfarbenen Wasser aufsetzten.

Wir wurden vom Personal am Ankunftssteg begrüßt. Alle Mitarbeiter trugen Masken und als erstes wurde unser Gepäck und unsere Taschen gründlich desinfiziert.

Shihan, our personal butler for our stay picked us up with a golf cart and we headed to the reception for check in. The process went super smooth: passports, Covid tests and a quick intro about the property and few minutes later we were set to go to our Ocean Villa.

DE: Shihan, unser persönlicher Butler für unseren Aufenthalt, holte uns mit einem Golfwagen ab und wir fuhren zur Rezeption, um einzuchecken. Der Prozess verlief reibungslos: Pässe, Covid-Tests und eine kurze Info über das Hotel und einige Minuten später waren wir bereits auf dem Weg zu unserer Ocean Villa.

The Villas

It was the first time for us staying in an Overwater villa with direct access to the ocean. Since privacy was top priority for us during this visit, an overwater villa was the obvious choice. And yes, regardless of the current situation, it is a 100% worth it! It is such a unique experience and if you love swimming in the ocean as I do you will absolutely love it!

DE: Es war das erste Mal, dass wir in einer Overwater-Villa mit direktem Zugang zum Meer übernachteten. Da die Privatsphäre bei diesem Besuch für uns oberste Priorität hatte, war eine Overwater-Villa die naheliegende Wahl. Und ja, unabhängig von der aktuellen Situation, es lohnt sich zu 100%! Es ist eine einzigartige Erfahrung und wenn Ihr es liebt, wie ich im Meer zu schwimmen, werdet Ihr es lieben!

Heritance Aarah has several different room types for different needs: Beach Villas (some with pool), Ocean Villas, Ocean Suites and Ocean Residence.

The Ocean Villa we stayed at had everything we needed. A huge comfortable bed, a Nespresso machine, a big private deck, Marshall speakers, a daily stocked complimentary mini bar and most importantly the most beautiful turquoise water right underneath us.

DE: Die Ocean Villa, in der wir wohnten, hatte alles, was wir brauchten. Ein riesiges bequemes Bett, eine Nespresso-Maschine, eine große private Terrasse, Marshall-Lautsprecher, eine täglich kostenlos aufgestockte Minibar und vor allem das schönste türkisfarbene Wasser direkt unter uns.

Here are also some impression from different room types. There are many options, also for bigger families where up to 4 people (Family Beach Villas) can stay.

Beach Pool Villa & Family Beach Villa

These villas are located directly by the beach. There are options with or without private pools as well as bigger beach villase for families up to 4. The main highlight is definitely the outdoor bathroom.

Beach Pool Villa & Family Beach Villa

Diese Villen liegen direkt am Strand. Es gibt Optionen mit oder ohne privaten Pool sowie eine größere Strandvilla für Familien bis 4 Personen. Das Hauptaugenmerk liegt definitiv auf dem Badezimmer im Freien.

Ocean Suite

The Ocean Suites are two story overwater villas a private pool. Guests of the Ocean Villas enjoy extras like exclusive access to Baani restaurant.

Ocean Residence

This is the biggest room category and there is just one Ocean Residence on the island. The highlight is definitely the huge infinity pool on the deck.

The Food

Heritance Aarah is a Premium All Inclusive Resort. Although usually I am not an All Inclusive fan, I recommend everyone coming to the Maldives to book an All Inclusive or at least Full Board meal plan. You most likely end up paying less and it also gives you an ease of mind.

Obwohl ich normalerweise kein All-Inclusive-Fan bin, empfehle ich jedem, der auf die Malediven kommt, einen All-Inclusive- oder zumindest Vollpension-Speiseplan zu buchen. Ihr zahlt höchstwahrscheinlich weniger und man ist einfach entspannter.

The resort is home to variety of restaurants and bars, all with different concepts and cuisines. So we had a lot of options to chose from. Let me tell you a bit more about each restaurant.

Ranba - International & Asian Cuisine - Buffet

This is the main restaurant of the resort and is open for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. It is a buffet restaurant and the selection changes daily. This is also the biggest restaurant of the island and you do not need to reserve in advance. This place is perfect for those who like variety and is also great for families with kids. The restaurant is set right by the beach and offers stunning views of the ocean.

DE: Das Resort beherbergt eine Vielzahl von Restaurants und Bars mit unterschiedlichen Konzepten und Küchen. Wir hatten also viele Möglichkeiten zur Auswahl. Lasst mich euch etwas mehr über jedes Restaurant erzählen.

Ranba - Internationale & Asiatische Küche - Buffet

Dies ist das Hauptrestaurant des Resorts und zum Frühstück, Mittag- und Abendessen geöffnet. Es ist ein Buffetrestaurant und die Auswahl ändert sich täglich. Dies ist auch das größte Restaurant der Insel und Ihr müsst nicht im Voraus reservieren. Dieser Ort ist perfekt für diejenigen, die Abwechslung mögen und ist auch ideal für Familien mit Kindern. Das Restaurant liegt direkt am Strand und bietet einen atemberaubenden Blick auf das Meer.

Ralu & Ralu Lounge Bar - French, Italian & Mediterranean Cuisine - A La Carte

This restaurant offers Mediterranean cuisine and is as well open for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. The great thing about this place is that it offers food anytime you want. So you can have a late breakfast or lunch whenever it suits you. The A la Carte menu offers a selection of seafood and other classics like Club Sandwich. The setting is just stunning since it is located overwater right by the jetty that leads to the Ocean Villas. The adjacent Ralu Lounge Bar is one of the best spots to watch sunset and enjoy the wide selection of Rum and Tiki Cocktails.

DE: Dieses Restaurant bietet mediterrane Küche und ist auch zum Frühstück, Mittag- und Abendessen geöffnet. Das Tolle an Ralu ist, dass Ihr essen könnt wann immer ihr wollt. So könnt Ihr spät frühstücken oder zu Mittag essen, wann immer es euch passt. Das A-la-Carte-Menü bietet eine Auswahl an Fish und Meeresfrüchten und anderen Klassikern wie Club Sandwich. Die Atmosphäre ist einfach atemberaubend, da sich das Restaurant direkt über dem Wasser befindet. Die angrenzende Ralu Lounge Bar ist einer der besten Orte, um den Sonnenuntergang zu beobachten und die große Auswahl an Rum- und Tiki-Cocktails zu genießen.

Baani & Baani Falhu Bar -Contemporary Fusion Cuisine - A La Carte

This restaurant is especially reserved for guest of the Ocean Suites. It serves Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner and same as Ralu, there are no set times. The food here was definitely our favorite. I recommend to try the French toast for breakfast, it was delicious! For Lunch you have a wide choice of sandwiches, bowls and seafood. For dinner Baani turns into a fine dining restaurant where an 5-course dinner is served. The atmosphere is really romantic.

DE: Dieses Restaurant ist speziell für Gäste der Ocean Suites reserviert. Es bietet Frühstück, Mittag- und Abendessen und wie bei Ralu gibt es hier keine festgelegten Zeiten. Das Essen war definitiv unser Favorit. Ich empfehle den French Toast zum Frühstück zu probieren, es war köstlich! Zum Mittagessen gibt es eine große Auswahl an Sandwiches, Bowls und Fisch und Meeresfrüchten. Zum Abendessen verwandelt sich Baani in ein Fine Dining Restaurant, in dem ein 5-Gänge-Menü serviert wird. Die Atmosphäre ist wirklich romantisch.

After dinner you can end the evening with some drinks at Baani Falhu Bar.

DE: Nach dem Abendessen könnt Ihr den Abend mit einem Drink in der Baani Falhu Bar beenden.

Ambula - Contemporary Sri Lankan & Maldivian Signature "Heritance" Cuisine - Set Menu

Ambula is the resorts signature restaurant focusing on Sri Lankan and Maldivian cuisine. It is open for dinner only, however every Monday afternoon there is a Maldivian cooking demonstration called "Divehi Rahathath" where you learn about two traditional dishes and afterwards of course eat them. A real fun experience and a chance to learn about the many different spices and flavours used.

DE: Ambula ist das signature Restaurant des Resorts, welches sich auf srilankische und maledivische Küche konzentriert. Es ist nur zum Abendessen geöffnet, aber jeden Montagnachmittag gibt es eine maledivische Kochdemonstration namens "Divehi Rahathath", bei der Ihr zwei traditionelle Gerichte kennenlernt und diese anschließend natürlich genießen könnt. Eine echt coole Erfahrung und eine Gelegenheit, die vielen verschiedenen verwendeten Gewürze und Aromen kennenzulernen.

For dinner an 8 course menu is served together with some wine pairings. I would definitely recommend to have dinner here one evening since it is a real interesting and flavourful journey.

DE: Zum Abendessen wird ein 8-Gänge-Menü zusammen mit Weinpaarungen serviert. Ich würde euch definitiv empfehlen, einen Abends hier zu essen, da es eine wirklich interessante und geschmackvolle Reise ist.

Hathaa - Urban Street Food - Show cooking

I was really excited for this one since I love street food. Hathaa means gathering in Maldivian. And this is exactly how the restaurant setup is designed. Everyone sits around the chef who will prepare the dishes in front of you. There are two different themes: Bangkok Night and Tokyo Night. We experienced the Tokyo night and really had a fun evening. Make sure to reserve in advance since spots are limited. Hathaa is only open for dinner.

DE: Da ich Street food liebe war ich besonders aufgeregt für dieses Restaurant. Hathaa bedeutet auf Maledivisch "zusammenkommen". Und genau so ist das Restaurant-Setup gestaltet. Jeder sitzt in einer Runde um den Chef herum, welcher die Gerichte vor euch zubereitet. Es gibt zwei verschiedene Themen: Bangkok Night und Tokyo Night. Wir haben die Tokyo Night erlebt und hatten wirklich einen lustigen Abend. Reserviert unbedingt im Voraus, da die Plätze begrenzt sind. Hathaa ist nur zum Abendessen geöffnet.

Ginifati - Seafood Menu - A La Carte

This one was one of my favorites especially because of the setup and atmosphere. Ginifati is the resorts seafood restaurant located right on the beach. Here you can enjoy fresh seafood and special treats like lobster. It is only open for dinner and reservation is recommended.

DE: Einer meiner Favoriten, besonders wegen des Setups und der Atmosphäre. Ginifati ist das Fischrestaurant des Resorts, direkt am Strand. Hier könnt Ihr frischen Fisch und Meeresfrüchte und besondere Leckereien wie Hummer genießen. Es ist nur zum Abendessen geöffnet und eine Reservierung wird empfohlen.

Sky Bar

Located right above Ambula restaurant, this bar offers stunning views for sunset. It also has a very upscale vibe. Make sure to try their signature cocktails.

DE: Diese Bar befindet sich direkt über dem Restaurant Ambula und bietet einen atemberaubenden Blick auf den Sonnenuntergang. Es hat auch eine sehr gehobene Atmosphäre. Probiert unbedingt die signature Cocktails.

Bandhi Pool Bar

This is the hotels main pool bar. During the day you can enjoy drinks as well as small snacks such as pizza or ice cream here.

DE: Dies ist die Hauptpoolbar des Hotels. Tagsüber könnt Ihr hier Getränke sowie kleine Snacks wie Pizza oder Eis genießen.

We usually spent time in the evenings here since there was always great live music or a DJ playing. Some evenings there is also a movie night organised here.

DE: Wir verbrachten hier meistens abends Zeit, da es immer Live-Musik gab oder ein DJ auflag. An manchen Abenden wird hier auch ein Filmabend organisiert.

Udaras Pool Bar

The infinity pool here is definitely worth a visit. Number of lounge chairs is limited so it never gets crowded. Perfect for those of you who prefer a bit more quiet pool time.

DE: Der Infinity-Pool hier ist auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert. Die Anzahl der Liegestühle ist begrenzt, so dass es nie zu voll wird. Perfekt für diejenigen unter euch, die eine etwas ruhigere Poolzeit bevorzugen.

The Activites

First of all, I have to say this was the clearest and most beautiful water I have seen in the Maldives. It was always calm, super clear and filled with beautiful sealife.

DE: Zunächst muss ich sagen, dass dies das klarste und schönste Wasser war, das ich auf den Malediven gesehen habe. Es war immer ruhig, super klar und voller wunderschöner Fische.

Obviously snorkeling is one of the best things to do when in the Maldives. You can rent snorkeling equipment free of charge from the dive center. Also kanoes and standup paddle are available on a complimentary basis.

DE: Schnorcheln ist natürlich eines der besten Dinge, die man auf den Malediven unternehmen kann. Schnorchelausrüstung könnt Ihr kostenlos im Tauchcenter mieten. Auch Kanos und Standup-Paddel sind kostenlos erhältlich.

Of course you can rent any other motorized water sports equipment for an extra fee. There is also a PADI certified Dive Center where you can learn how to dive or join diving trips.

3 times a week, a complimentary dolphin tour is organized which is also a very fun activity. So there are a lot of water related activities you can chose from.

Usually the hotel also organizes visits to local islands where you can experience a Maldives outside the resort but due to the pandemic inter island travel is forbidden. This is why Heritance Aarah created their own “local island”. It is called Maldivian village and is sort of an open air museum where Maldivian history and customs are shown. It is a 1 hour guided tour (offered every Wednesday, complimentary). Definitely a fun and different activity.

DE: Natürlich könnt Ihr auch andere motorisierte Wassersportgeräte gegen eine zusätzliche Gebühr mieten. Es gibt auch ein PADI-zertifiziertes Tauchzentrum, in dem Ihr lernen könnt, wie man taucht oder an Tauchausflügen teilnehmen könnt.

3 mal pro Woche wird eine kostenlose Delfintour organisiert, die auch sehr viel Spaß macht. Es gibt also viele Aktivitäten rund ums Wasser, aus denen man auswählen kann.

Normalerweise organisiert das Hotel auch Besuche auf lokale Inseln, auf denen Ihr die Malediven außerhalb des Resorts erleben könnt. Aufgrund der Pandemie ist das Reisen zwischen den Inseln jedoch verboten. Aus diesem Grund hat Heritance Aarah eine eigene „lokale Insel“ geschaffen. Das sogenannte Maldivian Village ist eine Art Freilichtmuseum, in dem maledivische Geschichte und Bräuche gezeigt werden. Es ist eine 1-stündige Führung (wird jeden Mittwoch kostenlos angeboten). Auf jeden Fall eine lustige und mal andere Aktivität.

The Spa is always on my list when in the Maldives. I had a 30 minute relaxation massage and can definitely recommend it. There are individual over water spa rooms available and you can even watch the sealife from the glass floor while having a massage.

DE: Das Spa ist immer auf meiner Liste, wenn ich auf den Malediven bin. Ich hatte eine 30-minütige Entspannungsmassage und kann es auf jeden Fall empfehlen. Es stehen individuelle Overwater Spa-Räume zur Verfügung, und Ihr könnt sogar die Fische vom Glasboden aus beobachten, während Ihr eure Massage genießt.

A kids club as well as a gym are also available on premise.

The service

As mentioned before, we had a dedicated butler, who was our contact person during the entire stay. So whenever we needed something, say a reservation, an excursion or a ride, Shihan was just a message away.

Der Service

Wie bereits erwähnt, hatten wir einen eigenen Butler, der während des gesamten Aufenthalts unser Ansprechpartner war. Wann immer wir etwas brauchten, z.B. eine Reservierung, einen Ausflug oder eine Fahrt zum Restaurant, war Shihan nur eine Nachricht entfernt.

All the staff was extremely polite and helpful. They did an amazing job complying to the safety regulations by wearing masks all the time and still stay friendly the whole time. Before every restaurant visit our temperature was measured and recorded, desks and chairs were always disinfected before we sat down and hand disinfectants were available throughout the resort. So overall we felt very safe.

Heritance Aarah is perfect for couples and families. Our stay was super relaxing, filled with stunning nature and good food. I am already dreaming of coming back one day.

DE: Das gesamte Personal war super höflich, nett und hilfsbereit. Sie haben großartige Arbeit geleistet, indem sie die ganze Zeit Masken trugen und trotzdem die ganze Zeit freundlich blieben. Vor jedem Restaurantbesuch wurde unsere Temperatur gemessen und aufgezeichnet. Tische und Stühle wurden immer desinfiziert, bevor wir uns hinsetzten und im gesamten Resort zur stand Händedesinfektionsmittel zur Verfügung. Insgesamt haben wir uns also sehr sicher gefühlt.

Heritance Aarah ist perfekt für Paare und Familien. Unser Aufenthalt war super entspannend, voller atemberaubender Natur und gutem Essen. Ich träume schon von unserem nächsten Besuch.
