Our first stop of our Quintana Roo Trip was Playa Del Carmen. Let me tell you what we’ve been up to.
How to get to Playa del Carmen?
There are no direct flights to Playa del Carmen so you will most probably fly into Cancun International Airport. From there you have several options
Bus – You can take the ADO Bus from Cancun Airport to Playa del Carmen Downtown. The trip will take around 1 hour and costs around 10 Euro one way
Car – We rented a car and drove around 45 minutes to Playa del Carmen. This is especially convenient when you plan to explore the neighbouring towns and beaches.
Taxi – Most expensive option and prices vary and mostly depend on your negotiation skills. Official price is around 900 pesos for a one-way trip.

Wie kommt man nach Playa del Carmen?
Es gibt keine Direktflüge nach Playa del Carmen. hr kommt also höchstwahrscheinlich am Flughafen von Cancun an. Von dort aus habt Ihr mehrere Möglichkeiten:

Auto – Wir haben uns ein Auto gemietet und sind ca. 45 Minuten nach Playa del Carmen gefahren. Dies ist besonders praktisch, wenn Ihr auch die benachbarten Städte und Strände erkunden möchtet.
Taxi – Die teuerste Option und die Preise variieren stark und hängen hauptsächlich von eurem Verhandlungsgeschick ab. Der offizielle Preis beträgt etwa 900 Pesos für eine einfache Fahrt.
Where to stay in Playa del Carmen?
There are many accommodation options in Playa, from beachfront 5 star resorts to Airbnbs. We stayed at the Residence Inn Playa del Carmen which was a 5 minute drive from Playa del Carmen downtown. The room was great and also had a kitchen. I can recommend this hotel for those who have a car and plan to spend most of their time outside the hotel but are looking for a comfortable and clean, yet affordable option. Prices are around 60 Euro / night.

Es gibt viele Unterkunftsmöglichkeiten in Playa, von 5-Sterne-Resorts am Strand bis hin zu Airbnbs. Wir übernachteten im Residence Inn Playa del Carmen, nur 5 Fahrminuten von der Innenstadt von Playa del Carmen entfernt. Das Zimmer war modern und geräumig und hatte auch eine Küche. Ich kann dieses Hotel für diejenigen empfehlen, die ein Auto haben und planen, die meiste Zeit außerhalb des Hotels zu verbringen, aber trotzdem eine komfortable und saubere, aber dennoch erschwingliche Option suchen. Die Preise liegen bei ca. 60 Euro / Nacht.
What is Playa del Carmen famous for?
It is definitely a town to experience some nightlife. The famous Quinta Avenida is packed with bars and restaurants and many shops. A stroll down this long avenue is a must do and definitely super fun.
DE: Wofür ist Playa del Carmen bekannt?
Auch wenn wir es nicht erlebt haben, ist das Nachtleben von Playa del Carmen ziemlich berühmt. Auf der Quinta Avenida reihen sich Bars und Restaurants und es viele Geschäfte und Boutiquen. Ein Spaziergang entlang dieser langen Allee ist ein Muss und macht definitiv sehr viel Spaß.
I also loved the Calle 38 Norte. It’s a small street off Quinta Avenida and home to many beautiful cafes, including my all time favorite breakfast spot, La Cueva del Chango. The asmosphere and the Chilaquiles are to die for!!
DE: Ich habe auch die Calle 38 Norte geliebt. Es ist eine kleine Seitenstraße abseits der Quinta Avenida und beherbergt viele schöne Cafés, darunter auch mein Lieblingsfrühstückslokal, La Cueva del Chango. Die Atmosphäre und die Chilaquiles sind ein Traum!!
I also found the street food to be the best in Playa del Carmen. My favorite taco places where
El Fogon – This place is quite famous and the Tacos al pastor are out of this world
Cecina de Yecapixtla – This place was my absolute favorite during the whole trip. It is a bit out of the tourist area and only open until 5pm. You have to try the Cecina tacos!!! THE BEST!!
Tacos de Birria “El Compa” – This is a small foodtruck located in the parking lot of the supermarket called Mega Soriana, serving the best birria tacos I ever had
Another streetfood we discovered here was the so called “Maquesita”. It’s a Mexican version of crepe and you can find many carts selling it. Definitely a must try!
DE: Ich fand auch das Streetfood in Playa del Carmen war das Beste. Meine Lieblings Taco Restaurants/Stände, waren:
El Fogon – Dieses Restaurant ist ziemlich berühmt und die Tacos al Pastor sind unglaublich gut!!
Cecina de Yecapixtla – Dieses kleine Restaurant war während der gesamten Reise mein absoluter Favorit. Es liegt etwas außerhalb der Touristengegend und hat nur bis 17 Uhr geöffnet. Ihr müsst die Cecina-Tacos probieren! ! ! DAS BESTE was ich seit langem probiert habe!!
Tacos de Birria „El Compa“ – Dies ist ein kleiner Food Truck auf dem Parkplatz des Supermarkts Mega Soriana, der die besten Birria-Tacos macht, die ich je probiert habe
Ein weiteres Streetfood Highlight, war das sogenannte „Maquesita“. Es ist eine mexikanische Version von Crepe und Ihr findet fast an jeder Ecke einen Stand die es verkaufen. Auf jeden Fall ein Muss!
The beaches! Playa del Carmen has some of the pretties beaches and surprisingly the most turquoise water is right in the downtown area close to the ferry terminal. Some beach clubs you can visit via a day pass are Mamita’s or Kool Beach Club. We also spent a day at Petite Lafitte Beach Club at Playa Xlacoco which had a very relaxed vibe. There are many nice beaches within a 30 minute drive from Playa del Carmen so if you have a car make sure to explore
Playa del Carmen is also the place where the ferries to Cozumel take off, so if you’re planning to visit Cozumel it makes sense to combine it with a visit to Playa del Carmen.
DE: Die Strände! Playa del Carmen hat einige der schönsten Strände und überraschenderweise befindet sich das schönste türkisfarbene Wasser direkt in der Innenstadt in der Nähe des Fährenterminals. Einige Strandclubs, die Ihr mit einer Tageskarte besuchen könnt, sind Mamita’s oder Kool Beach Club. Wir haben auch einen Tag im Petite Lafitte Beach Club am Playa Xlacoco Strand verbracht. Die Atmosphäre war sehr entspannt. Es gibt viele schöne Strände im Umkreis von 30 Autominuten von Playa del Carmen. Wenn Ihr also ein Auto habt, solltet Ihr unbedingt die Gegend erkunden
Playa del Carmen ist auch der Ort, an dem die Fähren nach Cozumel ablegen. Wenn Ihr also plant, Cozumel zu besuchen, ist es sinnvoll, es mit einem Besuch in Playa del Carmen zu kombinieren.
Explore the surroundings!
We drove 30 minutes towards Tulum and visited Cenote Azul. Make sure to arrive early so it is not too crowded. Entrance was 100 pesos per person. There are also a few other cenotes right nearby.

Wir sind ca 30 Minuten in Richtung Tulum gefahren und haben Cenote Azul besucht. Fahrt auf jeden Fall früh hin, damit es nicht zu voll wird. Der Eintritt kostet 100 Pesos pro Person. Es gibt auch ein paar andere Cenoten in unmittelbarer Nähe.
A big highlight of our trip was also our visit to Aktun Chen Park. It is located 30 minutes away from Playa del Carmen and offers three main attractions: Cave visit, Swimming in the cenote, Zip Lining. We did the first two and it was breathtaking. Both activities are done with a guide and we learnt so much about how these caves and cenotes in this area were formed.
DE: Ein großes Highlight unserer Reise war auch unser Besuch im Aktun Chen Park. Dieser liegt 30 Minuten von Playa del Carmen entfernt und bietet drei Hauptattraktionen: Höhlenbesuch, Schwimmen in der Cenote, Zip Lining. Wir haben die ersten beiden gemacht und es war atemberaubend schön. Beide Aktivitäten werden mit einem Guide durchgeführt und wir haben so viel darüber erfahren, wie diese Höhlen und Cenotes in dieser Gegend entstanden sind. Kann ich also absolut empfehlen!
Another nice area to visit is nearby Puerto Aventuras. It’s a gated complex with hotels, holiday homes, cafes and restaurants inside. We visited for breakfast at Lara & Luca. And you can also spot some dolphins here.
Overall, Playa del Carmen is a great city to have some fun, explore the area and enjoy the Caribbean sea.*

DE: Eine weitere schöne Gegend für einen Besuch ist das nahe gelegene Puerto Aventuras. Es ist ein geschlossener Komplex mit Hotels, Ferienhäusern, Cafés und Restaurants. Wir waren zum Frühstück bei Lara & Luca dort. Wenn Ihr Glück habt könnt Ihr hier auch Delfine sehen.
Insgesamt ist Playa del Carmen eine coole Stadt wo Ihr garantiert viel Spaß haben werdet. Die Lage ist auch gut um die Gegend zu erkunden.
