After spending 1 day in Stone Town we were ready to hit the beaches of Zanzibar. Our first stop was Nungwi which is located in the North of the island. Here are many big and smaller hotels and apparently this region is affected at least by the tides. So that's why we decided to spent a couple of nights here. We opted for a small boutique hotel rather than one of the big resorts. The Zanzibari is directly located at the coast of Nungwi a bit outside of Nungwi Town. As soon as we arrived we felt how calm and relaxing this place will be. We stayed at the Frangipani Villa which was the highlight of our trip. There are only 2 Frangipani villas and it is perfect for couples or families that are looking for ultimate relaxation.
Let me tell you a bit more: The suite is huge, like really huge. It has a big living room, a master bedroom, 2 bathrooms and a second floor which is semi open. So on the upper floor there is also a king size bed, a single bed, a bathroom as well as a sitting area, but no windows. It's so nice to sleep up there and look at the stars during the night. So in total the suite can accommodate 6 persons, perfect for big families or a group of friends. The best thing is you have a private beachfront garden with pool and loungers. Naturally we spent most of the time there.
The hotel also has a common pool area and pool bar and loungers and cabanas on the beach. You can swim during high tide directly from the property or take a lovely walk on the beach during low tide.
There is one restaurant at the property but we only had lunch there once and I have to say it was not our favorite and I found it a bit overpriced. But probably ordering pizza wasn't the wisest choice we made.
Nungwi town is a 10 minute drive away, during daytime you could also walk. There is a small zoo and a turtle aquarium very close by. The hotel staff also is very helpful in terms of organizing transfers or excursions.
I definitely recommend staying at the Frangipani suite, also perfect for honeymoon :)
